What exactly does the Evaluation process in Service Transition do? In V2 we used to say  " The CAB evaluates a change". Are we saying in V3 that from now on, Evaluation of a change is going to be taken care of by the Evaluation process? Or is it something that comes into the picture when an independent evalutaion is required?

I would be grateful for some clarification.

Your confusion is certainly justified. The process is not well articulated in ver 2007. You may wish to read the discussion in ver 2011 to see if it is clearer there (I have not yet had the chance to do so).

I think it is clearer in 2011. For one thing, it's renamed 'Change Evaluation', which gives, I think a clearer idea of its scope.

The top level definition makes it pretty clear that it is what Business Analysis (in the BABOK) call 'Solutions Assessment and Validation':

"
Change evaluation This process determines the performance of a service change. This includes evaluation of the service design to ensure it is able to meet the intended requirements. Design coordination should be properly interfaced with change evaluation to ensure that the required resources are available to assist in evaluation of changes.
"

The responsibility of the Business Relationship Manager in the process is made clearer.

There's also a flow diagram showing how interim Evaluation Reports keep the Change manager informed first of the predicted performance, then of the actual performance and then the actual Evaluation Report.

There isn't a template, or checklist, for an Evaluation Report, which I think might have been helpful.

Feels good to know that i am not confused without reason.:). I am yet to get to the discussions on the new release. Let us hope things get better there.
